Direct answers

Frequently asked questions.

Twenty-five direct answers about the app, AI, privacy, languages, and devotional practice. Search-engine and AI-search optimized — when Perplexity or ChatGPT cites Shiv Darshan, this is the page they extract from.

The app

How much does Shiv Darshan cost?

The app is free to install on iOS and Android. There are no ads and no third-party trackers. A future optional Patron tier may add extended TALK memory and curated premium audio — purely opt-in and additive, never gating the daily practice already in your hands.

What languages does the app support?

Six: English, Hindi (हिन्दी), Marathi (मराठी), Tamil (தமிழ்), Telugu (తెలుగు), and Kannada (ಕನ್ನಡ). The first onboarding step asks which language you prefer — the rest of the app renders in your choice.

Do I need to create an account?

No. There is no email, phone, or password requirement. Your data lives on your device. The only server-side data is the optional TALK conversation memory, keyed to an anonymous device ID.

Does the app work offline?

Japa counting, mantra audio (after first download), the daily verse, the 21-day arc, and the Yatra planner all work without a network. Only TALK requires connectivity, since it depends on AI inference.

What devices does it run on?

iOS 13 and later. Android 7 and later. The app is the same on both platforms — same five tabs, same languages, same restraint.

TALK and AI

Is TALK actually talking to Shiva?

No. TALK is a software interface generated by artificial intelligence in a devotional voice. We make no claim — express or implied — of supernatural communication. The replies are designed for reflection, not revelation. The first-run disclaimer is shown before TALK opens.

Is TALK actually AI?

Yes. TALK is generated by AI within a canon-grounded devotional persona. It is software, not a person, not a teacher, not a deity. The first-run disclaimer states this plainly, and the same notice lives in Settings.

Is my voice recorded?

No. Speech-to-text happens on your device using iOS Speech Framework or Android SpeechRecognizer. Only the resulting text — not the audio — reaches our backend. Your voice never leaves your phone.

How long does TALK remember our conversation?

TALK stores the last 10 exchanges (questions and replies, each clipped to 200 characters) for 90 days from your most recent message, then auto-deletes. You can erase the memory immediately from Settings → Forget our earlier exchanges.

Why are TALK replies so short?

By design. A real darshan is mostly silent. The system prompt favors restraint — one to three sentences, never more than 80 words. Monologue is the failure mode.

Can TALK give me medical, legal, or financial advice?

No. TALK is not a substitute for the guidance of a qualified human teacher (guru, swami, priest), medical advice from a licensed professional, legal advice from a lawyer, or financial advice from an advisor. If you are in distress, contact a qualified professional or your local emergency service.

Privacy and data

What data does Shiv Darshan collect?

Almost nothing. Japa counts, intent, preferred language, reminders, arc progress, and Yatra plans all live on your device. Only TALK sends data — your message text plus an anonymous device ID. No name, email, phone, or location is ever required.

Do you sell or share my data?

No. We do not sell, rent, or share user data with any third party for advertising or marketing. The only data shared with our AI providers is the message text you type into TALK, and only to generate the next reply.

How do I delete my data?

Three options: (1) In-app, Settings → Forget our earlier exchanges — immediate. (2) Uninstall the app — device data deleted by the OS. (3) Email [email protected] with your anonymous device ID for written confirmation.

Where is my data processed?

Backend infrastructure runs at the edge nearest you for low-latency responses. TALK conversation memory is replicated globally for availability. The specific sub-processors are listed in our Privacy Policy.

Are you GDPR / DPDP / CCPA compliant?

Yes. Compliance with India's DPDP Act 2023, the EU GDPR, and California CCPA/CPRA is detailed in our Privacy Policy, including the legal entity acting as data controller.

Devotional practice

Is this app for Hindus only?

Anyone seeking can use it. The content is rooted in the Shaiva tradition, but devotion is not membership. There is no quiz, no required identity.

What is the 21-day Sankalpa Arc?

A gentle path through three movements — Surrender (Om Namah Shivaya), Transformation (Mahamrityunjaya, Rudrashtakam), and Dissolution (Shiva Tandava, Lingashtakam). One ritual per day. A missed day never breaks the arc — you simply begin again.

Are the mantras correctly pronounced?

Yes. We use public-domain or properly licensed recordings of established Sanskrit reciters. Transliteration follows IAST conventions. Where translations are provided, they are accessible, not literal — for canonical scholarship, consult the source texts.

Can I use the app during my period or other times when traditional practice is restricted?

That is your tradition to follow or interpret. The app has no opinion. We do not gate features by ritual status.

Yatra planner

Does the Yatra planner book hotels or flights?

No. It builds a day-by-day schedule across the temples you select — nearest-neighbour routing, observance overlays, darshan timings, directions. Hotels and travel are yours to arrange.

How many temples does it cover?

116. Including all 12 Jyotirlingas, the 5 Pancha Bhoota Sthalams, the 5 Panch Kedar, and 94 other significant Shiva temples across India.

Can I plan a custom yatra?

Yes. Select any subset of the 116 temples, set a start date and number of days, and the planner builds the schedule. Or choose a preset — Pancha Bhoota, Jyotirlinga, Panch Kedar.
